Schnittke en Lassus

Dit concert brengt twee benaderingen van boete samen, gescheiden door vier eeuwen. In de eerste twee boetepsalmen van Orlandus Lassus klinkt berouw als een ordelijk, liturgisch proces. De muziek volgt nauwgezet de psalmverzen en eindigt telkens in het Gloria Patri. Lassus’ polyfonie is ingetogen en evenwichtig, gericht op concentratie en verstilling, en nodigt uit tot luisteren zonder theatrale uitvergroting. In Alfred Schnittkes Psalms of Repentance verschuift de focus naar de innerlijke worsteling van het individu. De anonieme Russische boeteverzen uit de zestiende eeuw krijgen een uitgesproken expressieve toonzetting, met scherpe dissonanten en abrupte contrasten. Zij trekken de luisteraar een andere wereld binnen.
